A Biography


John Fullmer began attending USC in the Fall of 1998, a USC Presidential Scholar and National Merit Scholar. Though a music major, John's interests in literature, writing, and philosophy, in addition to his love for teaching have led him to consider pursuing teaching English.

Toward this end, he is gaining experience as a facilitator for Med-COR a supplementary Saturday educational program which prepares junior high and high school students for the medical profession. In this capacity, John prepares weekly lesson plans in English for two classes, and presents them.

When not involved in acadaemia or music, John enjoys swimming, reading and literary composition, volunteering, web design, studying Latin, yoga, good food, and poetry readings.

Musical Biography


John Fullmer began studying trumpet with David Washburn, principal trumpet of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, in 1992. In 1994, he was awarded his Junior High's Most Outstanding Musician Award. In high school he served as section leader of the marching, concert and jazz bands for all four years, also playing for the Troy High School Brass Quintet. He was awarded Musician of The Year for his respective class each year of his high school career.

His sophomore year, he auditioned and won a seat in the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra. After an unsuccessful audition his junior year, John reauditioned as a senior and was selected as principal trumpet of the orchestra. The same year his high school band director conferred him the John Philip Sousa Award for musical excellence.

In January of 1998, he auditioned and was accepted into the USC Thornton School of Music. The following fall he began study at USC with Boyde Hood of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. John is currently in his third year of studies for completion of a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance.

John began giving private instruction in 1997.
