2009 Retrospective
Inspired by a friend's summation of his unbelievably prolific "off-year," I decided to get a little purchase on what I made of 2009. Here it is (was?):
Writing
- Composed my first ever book of poetry (also, apparently, the first ever book of twitter poetry), published by A Mutual Respect Books & Music.
- Began writing my first novel, which will be released via facebook application beginning January 2010.
- Edited two more issues of New Comm Ave, including first-ever print editions.
- wiki entry for iconoclast Nick Courage, and galvanized his compatriots to create COURAGE: a portrait of the man as an artist.
- Gave an exclusive (and inclusive!) interview for AMR's Friend of a Friend series
Art
- Did a brief series of noir comic illustrations.
- Designed cover art for New Comm Ave, V.5, No. 2 & 3 other projects
Music
- Contributed vocals & trumpet to multiple tracks of "Christmas at Castlegate," a limited edition album of holiday music for friends.
- All My Lovin'

- Produced 3 original recordings for friend Bridget

- Music video for Nick Courage's Don't Be Yourself

- Went vegetarian (Jan 2009-Present)
- Walked 30 miles in 12 hours straight
- Built an elaborate rat-home
- Built shoji doors for my bedroom. From scratch.

- Founded a videogame company.
- Founded a website for online teaching theory
- Helped create a new literary magazine, dirtcakes
- Became Sonny AND Cher for Halloween
- Presented Facebook in the Classroom at ECCTYC 2009
- Successfully interviewed for a position in the Peace Corps (to begin June 2010)

Mark, this was a provocative discussion. I suppose as devil's advocate I would be less enthusiastic about some of the points you made, such as the reconceptualizing of knowledge. I think of the Atlantic Monthly cover article a few months back with the lovely title "Is Google Making Us Stoopid?"
Perhaps in the panel in June this might be what I should be doing: asking the philosopher's questions about the implications of Web 2.0.
